Oleh – A Police orderly attached to Burutu Local Government Council Chairman of Delta State has shot dead a commercial vehicle driver at Ogbobagbene Community in the Council Area.
The accident occurred around 6:45pm last Friday causing pandemonium in the community as some residents who heard the gun short thought militants from the creek were on rampage again.
An eyewitness who refused his name in print said, the Council Chairman Mr. Godknows Angele who was en-route with his boys and Police orderly arrived Ogbobagbene transit town late. And due to the 6pm curfew put in place by the Joint Military Task force JTF, for no navigation on waterways by 6pm, the Council boss decided to approach to approach the JTF officer to allow him and his crew traveled to Torugbene to attend a function.
While the plea for the Chairman and his crew be allowed to travel was going on, they heard a gun shot and people in few metre away started wailing our colleague have been shot dead.
The source said, the JTF, immediately disarmed the Police orderly and detained him and later handed the Police orderly to the Nigerian Police for disciplinary action.
The Burutu Council Chairman, Mr. Angele who confirmed the incident when contacted by Newsmen said, “What happened was quite unfortunate.”
He disclosed that his Police orderly have taken away by the Police from Asaba and was presently in detention “as for the deceased commercial vehicle driver, we are in torched with the family at Ughelli to arrange for his burial.”
The Police spokesman for Delta State Police Command, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, when contacted, could neither react nor respond to calls or text messages put forward to him.
