Oluwatobiloba Amusan and Patience Okon-George, alongside seven others, will represent the country at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The championships will hold from Thursday to Sunday.
Amusan will feature in the women’s 60m hurdles alongside Lindsay Lindley, while Okon-George will feature in the women’s 400m and the 4x400m relay.
Other Nigerian participants are the quartet of Regina George, Glory Nathaniel, Yinka Ajayi and Emerald Egwim who will join Okon-George in the women’s 4x400m relay.
The Nigerian male participants are Chidi Okezie who is in the 400m event, and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi who will feature in the shot put event.
NAN reports that 632 athletes representing 144 countries will compete at the championships, with a total sum of US$2,464,000 on offer as prize monies at the championships.
There is also a 50,000 dollars bonus on offer for any athlete setting a world record during the four-day championships.
Individual events have a total of $2,288,000 prize monies, with first-place, second-place and third-place winners receiving $40,000, $20,000 and $10,000 respectively.
Fourth-place, fifth-place and sixth-place winners will earn a sum of $8,000, $6,000 and $4,000 respectively.
A total of $176,000 will also be won in the relays per team, with the same prize money structure as that of the individual events.
