Barely three weeks after raiding and discovering N65.5 million in an INEC ofice in Zamfara State, men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have reportedly raided an INEC office in Sokoto.

According to The Nation, the Sokoto Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, 29th raided Sokoto office of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

The anti -graft agency is said to have cordoned the office leading to the questioning of some principal officers for alleged involvement in financial crime. A source from the commission who preferred anonymity confirmed the operation.

The source said:

“There was a raid and the matter is still under investigation.”

Since the raid, the INEC office has been deserted with few staff present according to reports. The officials is yet to make any comment regardking the incident as efforts by newsmen to speak with the PRO of the commission proved abortive.

Recall earlier this month the EFCC raided the INEC office in Zamfara state and recorvered N65.5 million. According to the EFCC, the money is suspected to be 40% illegally deducted on funds released to the INEC office in Zamfara, to cater for the rent of canopies, tables and chairs, as well as funds for Registration Area Center (RAC) and movement of men and materials to polling units, by the HOD Accounts & Cashier.
